With a full 12-person jury and one alternate juror sworn in Thursday, Judge Juan Merchan has called a pool of 96 potential jurors to his Manhattan courtroom in hope of finding five more alternate jurors for the first trial of a former president, which is expected to last roughly six weeks.

NEW YORK — Former President Donald Trump spent the week in the Manhattan Criminal Court. After four days jurors have been selected to decide his fate. It is the first criminal trial of a former president. Twelve jurors and six alternates were finalized on Friday. Opening arguments are expected to begin on Monday.

The final stage of jury selection Friday wasn’t without its drama as multiple potential jurors got emotional. One potential panelist broke down in the jury box as she recalled her own incarceration that occurred about a decade ago. Another two also became emotional over the seriousness of the case. All three of those jurors were excused.
